The KTN is a Head than when run with cabs is balls out great amp, with a secondary function as being a small practice amp. best way I can explain it is the AIR is primarily a practice amp, the THR is a practice amp that can be used in the Studio or live if required because its sounds better than the Air. I found that the KTN had more expansion, meaning, I could get more features and more bang for my buck by using the KTN over the THR. The limitations of the onboard speaker in the KTN are forgiven since its features far make up for it. I do not use my THR anymore as I play live more and more than I do practicing. I manage both heads using an FCB1010 and I love it.

If you want bluetooth, the THR has it built in where the KTN will require a tablet/cell for using a bluetooth pedal. playing live, I run a 4x12 Marshall from the main and the slave runs into an FRFR 12.Ĭonclusion. The KTN's sound ok stock but youre gonna want to get into the settings for the EQ and other options. KTN Head II, I went with 2x KTN heads because I wanted the expand and the ability to control with Midi. Albeit the Air wont reach band practice volumes. Katana Air, excellent sounding amp at practice volumes, not as easy to use as the THR but like I said, the Katana sounds just slightly better at louder volumes. The THR was upsetting when run with the PA or Mic'd unless it was low volume. I was never satisfied with the THR's 'feel', I believe the Katana has a better feel and overall sound once its tweaked. The onboard speakers are great for practice requirements. If you want simplicity and great sounds out of the box with just using the knobs on the amp, the THR is excellent. Having owned all the amps you listed, I can give you my shitty ass 2 cents worth.

My other option is just to get an Orange Crush 20rt 1x8 combo, simple no apps, limited, but can dial from clean to metal. Also the more I do the research I find out that the THR is a much better sounding amp than the katana air.įor now I only want to know about the speaker of the head, and if anyone owns both what do they think?Īlso I am sick of all these amps that require apps with thousands of tones, pedals, models that sound muddy, boxy, I just want to play, I read the Katana and THR are good at stock configurations and have usable knobs LOL. I want something lightweight, I know there is the Katana 50, 100, artists but anything other than the 50 is too cumbersome to be carrying around, it would be a hassle and from what I read it has limited footswitch capabilities, no fx loop and the speaker is not as good as the others. How does the Katana Head compare in sound quality at tv volume levels to the Yamaha THR10ii? Also I am looking to take some lessons due to my lack of sense of timing LOL! see if I can play on time for once. If I ever need high volumes I can buy another amp. I will practice mostly at night so low volume, best sounding is what I am looking for. I am looking for a home practice amp, and also to take to lessons. I just came back to playing guitar after abandoning the hobby for 12+ years.
